Simon had an interesting project brief. A lovely old 9 foot plus brick wall as a fantastic suntrap to use and populate. A lively household also had requirements for immediate use for play, bar-b-q, and children running around, as well as developing a collection of heritage and hot global food plants at ground level and in raised beds. The project began as a one-to-one garden coaching scenario as we named the stayers in the garden, eyeballed and began the task of soil improvement, and got a feel for the new comers. Then we changed gear and expanded the team to allow a patio, raised bed, pergola, compost bin and benches to be built, full soil restoration, round lawn and planting installation.

The Holly, Peonies and purple flag iris were allowed to stay.

We then resumed garden coaching sessions, later building a raised bed together as a project and later again a front garden planting scheme within. A great example of how mixing up the methods and themes can really achieve a garden that suits you and is an enjoyable place to continue spending time and developing a relationship with it.
